Longmont Stake Pioneer Trek
July 26 - 29, 2023
WALKING WITH OUR ANCESTORS IN THE LIGHT OF CHRIST
We would like to thank everyone who participated in our 2023 Trek! We had a wonderful experience.
From 1856 to 1860, about 3,000 Latter-day Saints pulled handcarts across the American plains to gather in the Salt Lake Valley. These pioneers trekked more than a thousand miles through heat and cold; through mud, sand, and sometimes snow; and through rivers and over mountains. They faced trials that required great faith and perseverance. To help youth learn from the experiences of the handcart pioneers, stakes and wards may choose to plan handcart trek reenactments for youth conferences.
At trek, youth from each ward are grouped into "families" with adult leaders (usually a married couple) called to be their Ma and Pa. An older young woman will be asked to be a "Big Sister," and an older young man will be asked to be a "Big Brother." These youth will help encourage and support the youth in their family. Each ward has assigned a Head Ma and Pa, who help coordinate their ward registration and information with the stake. Your bishop and his wife will be the "grandparents" of your ward. We will trek the trails in groups of families. Due to the size of our stake, our groups will begin the trails at staggered times. Before trek, your ward and family groups will help prepare together and build relationships that will help them work together on trek.
